The Day I Lost My Dream Job — And Found My True Purpose

They say you never forget the moments that change your life. For me, one of those moments came on a seemingly ordinary Friday, just two weeks before Christmas. I was five months into what I thought was my “unicorn” job—an incredible role at an amazing company, fully remote, with good pay and a fantastic team. It felt like everything I had worked for had finally fallen into place.

Butttttt that all changed in the span of a 15-minute Zoom call.

Two weeks before Christmas, the world outside reflected how I felt inside. But even in the coldest moments, there’s a quiet beauty that hints at renewal.

It was a regular workday when, out of the blue, I was asked to join a Zoom meeting with my boss and HR (never a good sign). There was no warning, no time to prepare. The meeting began, and within minutes, I was informed that my position had been eliminated. I turned my camera off so they wouldn’t see me cry. Just like that, the job I thought would be my future was gone.

I was told to pack up my company laptop and ID and ship them back by the end of the day. The call ended, and I was left sitting in shock (and more tears). My mind raced—how would I tell my family, especially so close to the holidays? What would this mean for our finances? And, perhaps most painfully, how would I recover from this blow to my ego?

I would be lying if I said that I recovered swiftly. The truth is, it affected me deeply. I spiraled into a depression that took me a long time to pull myself out of. For a while, it felt like I was lost, grappling with the uncertainty and the fear of what came next. I applied to dozens, if not hundreds, of jobs and made it to the final round of several interviews only to be ghosted by recruiters and hiring managers. I was miserable and desperate.

But during that time, as difficult as it was, I learned a lot about what was truly important to me. I realized that while I had lost my job, I hadn't lost my skills, my creativity, or my passion. I still had so much to offer.

This forced me to confront my vulnerability head-on. Yes, I had to acknowledge that this was a significant setback. But it didn’t define me. Instead, it became a turning point. I decided to lean into my creativity, to embrace the uncertainty, and to forge a new path that was more aligned with my true purpose.

From chaos to creativity, I found my true path here. This is where vulnerability turned into purpose, and ideas slowly became reality.

Out of that season came the birth of The LPP Collective. I realized that my passion for storytelling, creativity, and community-building was something I could turn into a business that didn’t just fill the void left by my job loss—it expanded my vision and allowed me to help others shine.

Losing that job was hard, especially so close to the holidays, but it was also a gift in disguise. It taught me resilience, the importance of vulnerability, and the power of embracing change. Now, I’m on a mission to help others navigate their own turning points, to find their voice, and to tell their stories in ways that resonate and inspire.

So, if you’re going through a tough time right now, know this: it might just be the catalyst you need to discover your true path.
